Knitting the knit stitch with knitting needles

Step 1
Insert the right needle from the back to the front through the first stitch, crossing it under the left needle.

Step 2
Wrap the yarn around the right needle and pull it through the stitch, catching the loop.

Now the right needle is on top of the left.

Step 4
Slide the right needle down to release the stitch. Congratulations, you've made your first knit stitch!

Repeat this process for the number of stitches required by the pattern.
